#13 - Skiddle Ibiza presents The Japanese Popstars

The thirteenth instalment of the Skiddle.com Weekends Matter podcast is now available for your listening pleasure

This week's exclusive podcast celebrates the International Music Summit in Ibiza along with a mix from a band who have made a massive splash on the worldwide electronic scene, The Japanese Popstars.

The International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza runs every year for 3 days, this year running from 23rd May - 25th May at Ibiza Gran Hotel. Over 300 leading figures of the music industry head to Ibiza to network about the future direction of electronic music. Set up by Pete Tong and friends in 2008 it is now the official start to the Ibiza season. We chat to founding partner Ben Turner about the IMS.

The guest mix comes from The Japanese Popstars, who will be playing a DJ set at the Ibiza Skiddle Social on Weds 23rd May. The 3 lads known in their local town, Derry, as Japstars have a remix CV that reads like a who's who of the music industry including Beyonce, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Ting Tings and Editors. They have played all over the world including Fuji Rock - Japan, Oxegen - Ireland, Glastonbury Festival - UK, Electric Picnic - Ireland and many more. They also have their own brand of Nike trainers, JAPSTARS01!

The Japanese Popstars will be DJing at the Ibiza Skiddle Social on May 23rd alongside Sonny Wharton, Graham Sahara and Jamie Scahill and at the Space Opening Fiesta on 27th May

#12 - Venus with Sonny Wharton

The twelfth installment of the Skiddle.com Weekends Matter podcast is now available for your listening pleasure

This week's exclusive podcast comes from record label boss and DJ, Sonny Wharton. As a DJ Sonny shot to fame by winning a DJMag mix-tape competition for Renaissance leading to sets in Ibiza at Amnesia, a weekly residency at the infamous Manumission and Mixmag announcing Sonny as one of their original “Future Heroes” alongside the likes of Nic Fanciulli.

Over the last few years Sonny’s racked up slots for the who’s who of club land including sell-out shows at Space, Pacha and Ministry Of Sound. He’s held a monthly residency in Barcelona, regualrly rocks the likes of Global Gathering, V Festival, Wickerman and Isle Of Wight Festival and played to over 1 million people at The Berlin Love Parade. In addition to this Sonny has done no less than 3 guest mixes for Radio 1 as well as countless live interviews.

His label, Whartone Records, as well as being a hub for his solo releases has also released tracks from Paul Thomas, Mark Trophy, Ant Brooks and Richard Dinsdale.

Sonny will be playing at Venus in Manchester on Saturday 5th May, at the Ibiza Skiddle Social on Weds 23rd May and at Basscamp at Wickerman Festival on Saturday 21st July

This week's exclusive mix comes from a man that has been causing dance floor devastation across the world for over 10 years. Eddie Halliwell is the boss of 'Fire  It Up' which hits Tall Trees in Yarm on Sunday 6th May. His CV includes a residency at Cream and Judgement Sundays in ibiza, having his own Radio 1 show, being on seven essential mix shows as well as headlining any dance festival worth knowing about across the four corners of the globe.

His peers acknowledge him as one of the leading innovators when it comes to using technology to push boundaries, as Paul Van Dyk pointed out: “Now kids just use them, for example, Eddie Halliwell — what he does with those Pioneer CD players is f*cking nuts!  He had no hesitation; he just went for it and has probably got the best out of the machine”. Tiesto has also always shown great support to Eddie and recently labeled Eddie as a ‘Legend,’ in an interview with DJ Magazine!

This week's exclusive mix comes from the man behind one of the ground breaking club nights that came out of Manchester, Luke Unabomber. He is one half of The Unabombers and one of the people behind the Electric Chair club night that ran in Manchester for ten years up until 2008. He is also part of the team responsible for Electric Elephant in Croatia, End of Year Riot, Homoelectric and the fantastic Electrik bar in Chorlton.
