Episode 29 of the Skiddle.com Weekends Matter podcast is now available for your listening pleasure. It's our last of 2012 so we've got 10, yes 10, huge events for New Year's Eve to tickle your taste buds.
In this episode we feature a mix from Mr G who is playing at a huge party in London which runs from New Year's Eve through to New Year's Day afternoon.
Mr G is a scene veteran and was one half of techno duo, The Advents and part of house collective KCC sound system back in the 90's. His most recent album, State of Flux, was released on the Rekids label and showcases his tech funk sound that he is now known for. The man himself says his sound is all about a bassline, the music takes the formula of a ballad and the movement of reggae. He appears on NYE & NYD at LWE & Jaded alongside label mate, Nina Kraviz.
London Warehouse Events (LWE) began life in 2010 by putting on a huge sold out event with Eric Prydz in Great Suffolk St warehouse. Since then they have hosted parties all over London with premier DJ's such as Skrillex, Carl Cox, Pendulum and Sven Vath. For their NYE/NYD party they have hooked up with underground after hours party organisers Jaded. This party runs from 8pm on NYE through to 2pm on NYD with Nina Kraviz, Mr G and Raymundo Rodriguez. John O’Callaghan is firmly established in the A-list trance elite and is set to continue his journey further up the ladder of electronic dance superstardom. John’s high- energy trance mix coupled with a highly refined precision mixing style has seen him surge up through the DJ ranks. He plays all over the world and was the first irishman to play at Trance Energy.
11 years on and former Mixmag Club of the Year ' Goodgreef', is still one of the UKs leading clubbing brands. The infamous yellow Goodgreef logo has covered every major town and city in the UK and Ireland and can also be found regularly touring around the UK's biggest and finest venues such as Tall Trees in Yarm, The Warehouse Project in Manchester, The Syndicate in Blackpool, Digital Newcastle & Mission Leeds amongst others as well as crossing the shores of key clubbing destinations such as, Ibiza, Majorca, Norway and Holland. Alex M.O.R.P.H has been producing music for over 16 years and broke onto the trance scene with collaborations with Paul Van Dyk and Rank 1. As a DJ, Alex M.O.R.P.H. knows exactly how to keep the crowd going and at all major club events and world leading festivals like Trance Energy, Mayday, Gatecrasher, Nature One, Soundtropolis, Cream Ibiza, A State of Trance events, Stadium of Sound, and many more.
Off The Rails (OTR) is the Sheffield based trance night that has caused a stir through club land ever since its inception in February 2007. After quickly becoming known for a truly world class DJ bill, first rate productions and a unique atmosphere, OTR has given the local club scene a much needed beat injection. Germany's ecelectic dance music produce/DJ, Deniz Koyu has lived up to his reputation as one to watch for the future. Fedde Le Grand voted Deniz as a Breakthrough DJ/Producer in 2011, Sebastian Ingrosso called him a big time talent and when Axwell was asked who he was keeping his eye on he commented Deniz Koyu, he makes damn cool music, even MTV put him on the EDM Rookies To Watch List in 2012 adding that he was a blazing talent.
Bitch have had a huge year so far. They celebrated their 6th birthday in style by hosting the house arena at Mint Festival then on the same night selling out Venus in Manchester, they also hosted parties at Papaya beach club in Croatia over the summer. Their regular nights in Leeds and Manchester sell out and over the past tweleve months have seen the likes of Hardwell, Michael Woods, Nicky Romero and Danny Howard all grace the Bitch decks. Bitch returns to Leeds Warehouse on Saturday 17th November with Deniz Koyu, Kryder and D.O.D with tickets still available from Skiddle

In our 25th episode we focus on a one of the UK's longest running weekly club nights, Funkademia, who are celebrating their 17th birthday this weekend!
Funkademia began life as a one off club night back in Manchester in 1995 but soon grew into a weekly night described by themselves as a 'chronologicial history of soul' Each week their team of resident DJ's play a selection of soul, funk, disco, hip-hop, classic RnB and house to a full house with the sold out signs going up around midnight
DJ's such as Norman Jay, Greg Wilson and Graeme Park have graced the decks but the resident DJ's are the backbone of the night. On Saturday 3rd November the duo of David Dunne and Trafford Lovething will be on birthday duties and promise an insight into the past 4 decades of the finest music around. In episode 24 we focus on a one of Manchester's finest clubs, Sound Control, along with a mix from the fabulous DJ Yoda Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the world”. Since his debut album ‘The Amazing Adventures Of DJ Yoda’, was released to critical acclaim in 2006, he has produced tracks with Biz Markie, 2005 MOBO-winner Sway, Princess Superstar, Jungle Brothers, MC Paul Barman, and a host of other vocalists. Sound Control hosts DJ Yoda on Friday 19th October alongside with DJ Woody. Since opening nearly 3 years ago, Sound Control, has become first on the list of record labels and promoters to host live gigs and club nights for up & coming artists. A former music shop it has been transformed into a 3 floor 500 capacity venue in the heart of the student area of Manchester. This weekend two of the countrys biggest trance nights, Digital Society and Goodgreef, come together for the very first time at the awarding winning Digital Society HQ, O2 Academy Leeds. The legend that is Paul Van Dyk headlines alongside a whole host of DJ's including this weeks guest spinners, Tritonal
USA based Tritonal formed just a few years ago but have already made a massive impact on the worldwide trance scene. In 2012, Tritonal stood out on the festival circuit, winning over legions of fans at massive gatherings such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Escape From Wonderland, Ultra Music Festival, A State of Trance 550, and Creamfields Australia. They also managed to find time to release seven new tracks through their record label, Air Up There Recordings, sell out legendary clubs such as Exchange LA, become the resident DJs on Sirius XM's Electric Area, and syndicate their popular Air Up There radio show throughout five continents.

In episode 22 we focus on a new venue, aptly named 2022nq along with a mix from the only DJ to be awarded an MBE, Norman Jay.
Norman Jay first set up the now legendary Good Times Soundsystem back in 1981 - leading to a 32 year residency at Notting Hill Carnival. He became a key DJ during the ‘80s London rare groove scene, hosting a series of legendary clubs – Shake ‘N’ Fingerpop, High On Hope (inspired by New York’s Paradise Garage) and famed sessions at London’s Bass Clef (later the Blue Note) - all of which built his reputation for open-minded, soulful selections spanning soul, funk, disco, early house, reggae and hip hop. The past three decades have seen Norman Jay's career go from strength to strength, and now he travels the globe, spreading the Good Times far and wide.
2022nq opened in April this year and has already created waves in the underground scene. A basement space in the Northern Quarter of Manchester it's a hybrid gallery and music venue that has already hosted DJ sets from Disclosure, Horse Meat Disco and Justin Robertson. Supporting Norman will be Manchester's own disco destroyer Will TRAMP! - known to many for his DJ sets at Warehouse Project, Parklife and Homoelectric.

Episode 20 of the Skiddle.com Weekends Matter podcast is now available for your listening pleasure In this episode we focus on a club night that was started back in 1993 by a sheep farmer! Hard Times celebrates its 19th birthday this Sunday with Louie Vega who has kindly provided us with a mix. Hard Times was started by Steve Raine in Mirfield, Yorkshire and has since moved to various cites including Huddersfield and Leeds as well as hosting one off nights in London. Known for pioneering the US house sound the list of DJ's who have played is endless but includes Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Masters at Work. Louie Vega One half of Masters at Work, Louie Vega, will be helping the birthday celebrations at The Warehouse. A DJ for over 30 years he was a regular guest at Hard Times and released the US house classic ‘The Hard Times March’ alongside Kenny Dope under their ‘200 Sheep’ alias on the Hard Times label in 1995.
