Going out. It’s important. The very reason why Skiddle was founded was to unite people that love events. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that going out gives us normality, a chance to let go and connect with our community. But is it more than that?

#40 - Pete Herbert (Electric Elephant)
Wednesday Jun 05, 2013
Wednesday Jun 05, 2013
The podcast this time round comes from the sun drenched beaches and azure skies of the Adriatic coast, as ahead of the Electric Elephant in July Pete Herbert delivers a mix. Herbert’s quirkiness as both a producer and selector has seen him develop a reputation as a leftfield institution, blurring the lines between house, disco, italo dub and funk. This mix sees him elevate that lofty status further. The Electric Elephant runs from 11th to the 15th July, taking place in the gorgeous confines of the Garden site in Tisno. Spread across two locations, the Beach Bar and the Main Stage, there’s also a late night club Barbarellas that provides an inspirational al fresco clubbing experience. And that’s not to mention the sea of boat parties aboard the infamous Argonaughty vessel that accompany the programme. The podcast also rounds up the top five events this weekend as well, with nods to the huge Rockness festival, the Playground soiree in London, The Trance Together Second anniversary, Face’s One Records showcase and last but by no means least, Back to Basics bringing Chicago resident Derrick Carter back to Leeds.

In this episode we focus on Sankeys in Manchester and one of its resident DJs, Jozef K.
Sankeys first opened its doors in 1994 as Sankeys Soap, named after the building it is housed in that used to manufacture soap. Over the past 19 years it has hosted nights featuring household names such as Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers and Moby but has also helped to break underground DJs into the mainstream. In 2010 it was named number one club in the world by DJ Mag and this spurred owner Dave Vincent into creating '7 Sankeys of the World. The first two are Manchester and Ibiza.
One of the current resident DJ's is Jozef K and he has provided this weeks podcast mix. He has begun to build a glowing profile in such a short time which includes his own productions, remixes and a string of DJ dates. Aged just 23, Jozef K has quietly been crafting a name for himself, as one of Sankeys' lynchpins as well as playing at Croatia's Dimensions festival, Ibiza, Berlin and Moscow this year. Following on from his early well-received releases on Kaluki Musik, Jozef has been signed to Adam Shelton's revered One Records and has a forthcoming EP on Sasha's label Last Night on Earth.
