Going out. It’s important. The very reason why Skiddle was founded was to unite people that love events. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that going out gives us normality, a chance to let go and connect with our community. But is it more than that?

weekends matter 46: Mike Vale (Space, Ibiza)
Wednesday Aug 28, 2013
Wednesday Aug 28, 2013
The white isle. It’s the stuff of dreams, a place where the magic happens each and every summer with a high octane blend of hedonism and thumping electronic grooves has been seducing dance music lovers for decades. Whether you lose yourself in the reach for the lasers hedonism of the trance at Cream, the slow and sexual grooves of DC10’s underground house or the multi-faceted sounds of We Love… Space, Ibiza has it all for anyone who loves music.
With this in mind we’ve dedicated our podcast not to any one individual event this time round, but instead just given you a flavour of the best parties and clubs on the island you can still nab tickets for before the season shuts up shop for another year in early October. We’ve also grabbed a recent mix from someone you will be hearing a lot of in the future to showcase a flavour of the sound on offer, with Mike Vale delivering a techno workout which was his recent live recording when he played Space recently – he returns on Monday 9th September.
So turn up the speakers and let the pounding Balearic beats soothe you as we offer you a slice of the world’s still undoubted party capital.

#43 - The Head Gardener (Secret Garden Party)
Wednesday Jul 17, 2013
Wednesday Jul 17, 2013
We’ve been big fans of the Secret Garden Party here at Skiddle HQ for a few years now, the soiree rightfully attaining the status as one of the most loved boutique festivals in the UK. The attention to detail to the entire experience remains unrivalled and in terms of charm, they don’t come much better than SGP.
Although it’s a festival that’s well-endowed in the headliners department (2ManyDJs, Mistajam and David Rodigan number in this year's DJs) the family feel of their residents has been one of the key components of their musical make-up, headed up by The Head Gardener. So when we announced we’d be selling tickets for the gathering recently, we knew we had to spotlight his mix on our podcast series.
The podcast also throws some love to five other big events coming up over the next fortnight, with Leeds tyros mono_cult heading to London, Barcelona clubFACT doing the same, the Brazilica Festival afterparty in Liverpool, Australian bass fiend FLUME hitting Gorilla in Manchester and the monolithic Size in the Parkup in Scotland.

#41 - Eddie Halliwell (Cream Ibiza)
Wednesday Jun 19, 2013
Wednesday Jun 19, 2013
The Weekends Matter Podcast 41 is here and it’s helmed by a man who knows a thing or two about setting the world on fire, the one and only Eddie Halliwell. The man behind Fire it Up has held some of the most reputable residencies in dance music in his time, from Goodgreef to Gatecrasher, to the club for which this podcast centres on, Cream Ibiza. Eddie’s signature style of trance, techno, house and electro has been a winning combination for the club at their various events across the planet, with him a permanent component of Creamfields and a frequent player at their events in Liverpool, where this set was taken from in March. Eddie will be playing for Cream Ibiza for the first time tomorrow evening, with six more dates across the summer. We also look at the some other events this weekend, including Freeze presents Luciano and Friends, with mentions also to our Wickerman Warm Up, Ruckus in Middlesbrough, Sunset to Sunrise in Blackpool, The Hacienda reunion at the Coronet Theatre and Fantazia Superhereos in Bristol.

#40 - Pete Herbert (Electric Elephant)
Wednesday Jun 05, 2013
Wednesday Jun 05, 2013
The podcast this time round comes from the sun drenched beaches and azure skies of the Adriatic coast, as ahead of the Electric Elephant in July Pete Herbert delivers a mix. Herbert’s quirkiness as both a producer and selector has seen him develop a reputation as a leftfield institution, blurring the lines between house, disco, italo dub and funk. This mix sees him elevate that lofty status further. The Electric Elephant runs from 11th to the 15th July, taking place in the gorgeous confines of the Garden site in Tisno. Spread across two locations, the Beach Bar and the Main Stage, there’s also a late night club Barbarellas that provides an inspirational al fresco clubbing experience. And that’s not to mention the sea of boat parties aboard the infamous Argonaughty vessel that accompany the programme. The podcast also rounds up the top five events this weekend as well, with nods to the huge Rockness festival, the Playground soiree in London, The Trance Together Second anniversary, Face’s One Records showcase and last but by no means least, Back to Basics bringing Chicago resident Derrick Carter back to Leeds.

#39 - Lewis Boardman (Circus)
Wednesday May 22, 2013
Wednesday May 22, 2013
This fortnight’s podcast comes from one of the fastest rising talents in the UK, Circus resident Lewis Boardman. As well resident at the club for almost the entirety of their decade stint, Boardman has released records on imprints like NRK, Monique and Souvenir, the record label of Tiefschwarz, and taken his DJing talents to Global Gathering, Warehouse Project and Space in Ibiza.
This mix epitomises his deep and groove led house sound at its best, and is the perfect appetiser for Circus this weekend where Lewis will be playing alongside fellow resident Yousef, and guests Marco Carola, Deetron, Butch and Gorgon City. The podcast also rounds up some of the best events this weekend, including the opening parties in Ibiza at Space and Sankeys, club picks at Gatecrasher and and the Love Saves Sunday and Dot to Dot festivals.

#38 - Goodgreef with Gareth Emery
Wednesday May 08, 2013
Wednesday May 08, 2013
This week’s episode allows the spotlight to fall on one of the modern superstars of trance, Gareth Emery. Since breaking into the electronic music consensus with his huge ‘Mistral’ track in 2002 under his GTR pseudonym, Emery has been one of the doyens of his scene. A fixture in DJMag’s Top 100 since 2006, peaking at number seven, he and his record label have at the forefront of establishing a patented template where the focus rests squarely on melody. Whilst his and the label’s sound will always be grounded in trance, his keen ear for a hook has seen that translate into progressive, electro and house textures, perfectly demonstrated on this mix. Garuda is set to release their third compilation next week, mixed by rising star Ben Gold, and both Emery and the imprint have been in the midst of a huge UK wide tour. That included an emotional farewell to Sankeys on Friday (the Garuda office is based in the same building), and culminates this weekend at two huge parties, Goodgreef on Friday and Godskitchen in Birmingham on Saturday. Tickets for both are on sale at Skiddle now.

Tuesday Apr 09, 2013
Episode 36 of the Skiddle.com Weekends Matter podcast is now available for your listening pleasure
In this episode we focus on Defected Records with an exclusive mix from Santé
Defected Records began life in 1999 with their first release Soulsearcher 'I Can't Get Enough' which went to number 5 in the UK charts. They have never looked back since then and chances are you would have heard a Defected track in a club or bar over the past 14 years. They can take the credit for introducing now household names such as Bob Sinclar, Junior Jack, Sandy Rivera, ATFC and Copyright to a house hungry crowd. Over half a million people attend their 'Defected In The House' events each year, now operating in more than 40 countries worldwide including the Ministry of Sound in London.
Santé is a Berlin resident and is relatively new on the scene but has made a big impact in such a short time, Last year he had success with his track ‘Homegirl and has previously had releases on Desolat, Strictly Rhythm and 8Bit. He has launched his own record label and clothing brand, Avotre, and has already signed up Re.You and Sidney Charles. He will be joining Dennis Ferrer, Copyright and Noir on the decks at Defected in the House in London.

#35 - Sankeys with Jozef K
Tuesday Mar 26, 2013
Tuesday Mar 26, 2013
Episode 35 of the Skiddle.com Weekends Matter podcast is now available for your listening pleasure
In this episode we focus on Sankeys in Manchester and one of its resident DJs, Jozef K.
Sankeys first opened its doors in 1994 as Sankeys Soap, named after the building it is housed in that used to manufacture soap. Over the past 19 years it has hosted nights featuring household names such as Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers and Moby but has also helped to break underground DJs into the mainstream. In 2010 it was named number one club in the world by DJ Mag and this spurred owner Dave Vincent into creating '7 Sankeys of the World. The first two are Manchester and Ibiza.
One of the current resident DJ's is Jozef K and he has provided this weeks podcast mix. He has begun to build a glowing profile in such a short time which includes his own productions, remixes and a string of DJ dates. Aged just 23, Jozef K has quietly been crafting a name for himself, as one of Sankeys' lynchpins as well as playing at Croatia's Dimensions festival, Ibiza, Berlin and Moscow this year. Following on from his early well-received releases on Kaluki Musik, Jozef has been signed to Adam Shelton's revered One Records and has a forthcoming EP on Sasha's label Last Night on Earth.
Read an interview with Jozef K here. You can buy tickets for all events at Sankeys in Manchester and Ibiza from Skiddle
